Anthony Hill British, 1930-2020
Relief Construction, 1956
perspex, aluminium, laminated plastic (formica and cobex)
61 x 61 cm
The notebook Anthony Hill, Recent Constructions (Collection A, 1954–1962) indicates that four interpretations of this theme have existed, of which this is identified as ‘B: mounted on black cobex, exh. Recent Constructions ICA, coll. Adrian Hill'. Presumably the work was given to Hill's father Adrian, and reverted to Hill on his father's death.
Variant C was mounted on white formica, and variant D, a version of C dated 1960, was exhibited in ‘Constructivism', Paris, 1962. [AHN Anthony Hill, Recent Constructions (Collection A, 1954–1962)]
