Andrea Rose and Paul Moorhouse discuss the work of two important British artists: Anthony Caro (1924-2013) and Leon Kossoff (1926-2019). The discussion focuses on the current presentation at Annely Juda Fine Art of six tabletop sculptures by Anthony Caro from the 1970s and 1980s and six early paintings by Leon Kossoff.
Andrea Rose curated Leon Kossoff’s exhibition at the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 1995 and is currently editing the catalogue raisonné of Leon Kossoff’s paintings. During her time as Director of Visual Arts at the British Council she also worked with Anthony Caro on many occasions.
Paul Moorhouse was Senior Curator at Tate Britain. He curated Leon Kossoff’s retrospective exhibition at Tate in 1996, Anthony Caro’s exhibition Sculpture Towards Architecture at Tate in 1991, and the Caro retrospective held at Tate in 2005. He is now Chief Executive of The Anthony Caro Studio.
