David Hockney: Normandy

11 January - 8 February 2021

David Hockney has spent many months living in the French countryside of Normandy and has been documenting his surroundings in ink drawings, iPad drawings and paintings.  We are delighted to show a selection of the editioned works from this series, exclusively online.  There are 11 inkjet prints from original ink drawings and 3 iPad paintings.

Vibrant pictures of Hockney’s surroundings, including his Normandy house, its environs and interior were drawn in ink and are reproduced in inkjet prints. His idyllic home is surrounded by the brightness of spring, whilst interiors of his Normandy studio show his distinctive use of line and colour.  Meanwhile, 3 iPad drawings show his traditional hearth and a vase still life.

Hockney – perhaps the most widely appreciated artist of his generation - continues to work vigorously, constantly inspired by the changing landscape around him and exploring the possibilities of technology.

David Hockney will display a separate series of iPad drawings from the 'Arrival of Spring in Normandy 2020' at the Royal Academy, London in March 2021.
