David Nash 'Aboretum'

Kunstverein & Stiftung SPRINGHORNHOF

David Nash will open a new exhibition entitled ‘Arboretum’ at Kunstverein & Stiftung SPRINGHORNHOF on the 20th April.

The idea to bring this collection of drawings by David Nash to the oak-shaded exhibition building at Springhornhof follows on from the artist’s exhibition of works on paper at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 2022 and was supported by the long-standing member of the Springhornhof Foundation’s artistic advisory board, Sir Peter Murray CBE.

David Nash has dedicated his entire artistic work to the study of trees. He has become known for his planted installations of living trees such as Ash Dome (since 1977) and large sculptural works in various types of wood, but drawing has always been part of his artistic practice, capturing the diversity of vegetation and the vitality of nature. David Nash's close relationship with trees is impressively expressed in the exhibition Arboretum. The selection of drawings from five decades ranges from quick, rather observational studies in fine graphite to colorful, abstract works in which the artist captures and distills the colors of nature by applying pure pigments.
